SeiteninhaltWelcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Goethe University! The Faculty of Social Sciences at the Goethe University is one of the largest, most efficient, and longest standing social sciences institutions in Germany. 38 professors, over 100 academic staff and around 70 external teaching staff offer the over 8000 students a varied range of courses as part of 13 major degree programms, many minor subjects and the general scientific education for teacher training in all subjects. The Faculty organises its research into three Institutes, the Institute for Political Science, the sociologically-orientated Institutes for Social and Political Analysis and for the Foundations of Social Sciences; the latter including sociological social psychology. The Faculty also supports graduate education, in particular through the International Postgraduate Center (IPC) and the International PhD program “Democracy, Knowledge, and Gender in a Transnational World” (IPP Transnational). The Faculty’s unique profile also includes its significant integration into interdisciplinary contexts, for example with the Cornelia Goethe Center for Women's and Gender Studies and Research into Gender Relations (CGC), the Cluster of Excellence The Formation of Normative Orders, the Goethe Graduate Academy (GRADE), the Institute for Economics, Labour and Culture (IWAK), the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Africa (CIRA), the Interdisciplinary Centre of East Asian Studies (IZO) and the Center for North American Studies (ZENAF). In addition, the Faculty works closely together with many non-university institutions, especially the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), the Institute of Social Research (IfS), the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE) and the Sigmund Freud Institute (SFI).
