Welcome on  the web pages of the Centre for Interdisciplinary African Studies of the Goethe-University !

The “Centre for Interdisciplinary African Studies”  is an amalgamation of scientists and scholars from various faculties of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main.

Its function is to tie Africa-oriented activities at the Goethe University into a network of competence, and to:

  • boost and enhance research conditions at the Goethe-University,
  • initiate new projects with outside funds and maintain contact with national and international research funding,
  • promote interdisciplinary initiatives, which are essential to the processing of complex scientific statements of problems in Africa,
  • create a network of national and international institutions in research, economy, co-operative development work as well as culture,
  • promote co-operation with African partners,
  • co-ordinate African studies in academic teaching,
  • practise public relation work that will transport a different image of African reality,
  • afford a co-ordinating body for research inquires coming from the business world, as well as co-operative development work and organisations other than the university.
