Central Learning Management System for Students

What is the central Learning Management System OLAT?

OLAT (Online Learning and Training) is the central Learning Management System of Goethe University.

Many teachers use OLAT to offer digitally supported teaching (as enrichment or blended learning).

Please note: Tuesdays between 8:30 am and 10:30 am is Update time in OLAT. During this maintenance period the learning management system may not be available.

Should OLAT not be available outside this period, please write an email to: lernsysteme@rz.uni-frankfurt.de

How do I register for OLAT and for an OLAT course?

You log in to OLAT with your HRZ account (login and password).

Login page: https://olat-ce.server.uni-frankfurt.de

You can find courses using the Search button in the First steps portlet on the OLAT home page or using the search bar at the top right. Courses that have been registered for entry in the OLAT catalogue can also be found via the Catalogue tab.

Click on the course and enrol, provided that self-enrolment is possible. Otherwise, the course administrators will do this for you.

How do I withdraw from an OLAT course?

To withdraw, click on the Teach & Learn tab and then on My groups. Then switch to table view in the top right-hand corner. Under the Actions heading, you can leave the relevant learning group and thus the course. You can also withdraw from a course via the enrolment element in the course, provided this option is activated.

Active learning and working with OLAT

As a student, you have various options for organising and supporting your learning processes with OLAT.

You can customise the OLAT home page so that, for example, you can

  • see important current information about OLAT and news in subscribed course notifications at a glance,
  • access your courses and groups directly,
  • search for learning content using buttons, create your own groups or an ePortfolio, and
  • display dates, performance records, course favourites or course notes.

You can create your own working groups that are not linked to a course, where you can learn and work with others. Each working group has access to group tools such as folder, email, forum, calendar, wiki and blog.

You have the option of creating an ePortfolio to document and reflect on your own learning processes. You can share the ePortfolio with selected individuals for viewing.

Further information can be found in the instructions.
